Picked up this baby in April 2015 as a stock Soarer 1JZ TT 2.5 Auto.
This is my journey...
Growing up in KL, I first laid eyes on her back in school, I was in love. I said to myself one day I will own a Soarer. Took me almost 20 years!
Saw an ad in the local papers for a Soarer, I quickly headed over to check it out. It was an automatic TT, had around 150K km, Volk 18's , aftermarket body kit, aftermarket lights front and rear.
What was really appealing was that other than the cosmetics, this car was bone stock! No engine mods at all. Not even an aftermarket exhaust or drop in filter!
There are only around 5 Soarer in West Malaysia and this was the only bone stock one.
I had to have her!!
After paying for the car and going through the registration process, got to drive it home in May 2015.
Love the silence in the cabin...the silky smooth 1JZ. What a drive for a 25 year old car.
Curious to see how many bhp the Soarer has, headed down to a car show where they were giving our free dyno runs.
Clocked 199 wbhp on wheels on a bone stock Soarer 1JZ auto.
Cant ask for much from a stock car.
Found out that I was running on cut springs when I changed the rubbers. Decided to get a set of coil overs. Got a set of TIen HA soft/ hard and high low adjustable. Car is a lot firmer now and drifting it is a lot more predictable.
Buddy of mine wanted to sell his SIL18 with an SR20 DETT. Let me have it for a month to try. Didn't pick it up from him but what a ride.
Got the Soarer facelifted with the 1996 front and 1995 rear lights. Car looks so much better.

Went out for a drive with the bigger 2JZ guys. They are so farking quick....jeeze...
There was a Mk 2 Supra doing over 600 bhp. Excellent built . Enjoy the pics.
Noticed oil in the radiator in Nov 2015. Opened the engine and the piston sleeves were worn.
Decided its a good time to go VVTI.
Sourced for a 1996 1JZ VVti auto Soarer.
Starting work on the Soarer.
Most items were plug and play including the full wiring loom. Unable to use the ABS, TC and Adjustable absorbers as the wrecker cut the wires to the back when they chopped up the car in Japan. What a waste. Would have been great to have those features functioning.
Problem we faced was with the speedo as the TT 1JZ runs a mechanical Gbox and the new VVTi is electronic and gets the speed readings from the sensors at the wheels. As I cant be running these sensors, the speedo could not work. Anyhow the mech managed to sort it out by removing the speed sensor from my old TT gbox and fitting it into the new electronic gbox.
The old TT was running a open diff and the next VVTi had a Torsen diff. Interesting to see how this drives.
The aircon on the 1996 is also a newer system running on what my mech calls the newer gas so the compressor, pipes etc were moved over.
Some fabrication work was needed on the downpipe as the VVTi downpipe could not fit my TT housings. Good time to go with a free flowing downpipe so got a 3 inch one done flowing into a 3 inch centre box. I left the balance pipes std for later.
End Dec 2015
Here is a pic of the new downpipe. The rear boxes are still there. Didn't expect the Soarer to have some many mufflers!!
End Dec 2015.
Starting her up.
After a month of work, the Soarer is good to go. A new things here and there to tweak but its all good to go.
Very obvious is the torque of the VVti which now comes is so early below 3K. In the past the TT is sluggish til about 4.8 to 5K k rpm.
Now just floor it and it goes!. Engine is a lot smoother and it drinks a lot less than the TT. Such a lot of improvements Toyota have made on the new VVti platform.
First shake down up the twisties. Love the torque and the car drives almost like an NA. Instant off and on power. The pipes to the back are still stock so plant to get them done along with an AMFMIC . Hope that I don't lost any bottom response as I really love it now.
Installed the rear newer 1996 lights with the silver trimming. In a way I prefer the 1995 lights as the silver trims don't look too good.
Will dump the aftermarket rear bumper and use the standard 1996 bumper which came with the half cut car. Will get that done soon.
Here is a video of my first shake down with the VVTI. Stock boost . With a custom downpipe only.
After a few runs seems the turbo is restricted due to the standard intercooler and pipes. Getting the centre pipes to rear to 3 inches and running one back box. Getting a FMIC too.
After this dyno time!
Had a Power FC Auto from a JZX 100 in. The auto gbox model does not allow me to change the shift parameters and the default map was useless. Also with the standalone power FC, the OD switch which is in essence my 3rd gear does not function and neither does the power button.
Took it out and just put in a Greedy Emanage.
First run .
220 whp at 0.94 bar RON 95 and 30 kg torque.
Not happy with the power, got the car back to the tuner to check on the boost drop. The boost is max at 3k rpm at 0.94 bar but drops significantly after down to 0.6 bar.
Tuner worked on a newer tune and check for leaks all good.
At 1 bar now, getting 250 whp and around 32kg or torque. At 0.6 bar around 232 whp running Ron 95 gas.
The boost drop could possibly be due to the stock turbo's not being able to push out more boost at higher rpm. Guess that's the max the stock CT15's can do.
Boost drops from 4k rpm from 1 bar down to 0.74 .
Need to look at a bigger turbo...

Lovely journey so far! Looks great! Keep it up. Yes 94 lights are best! ;)
Ran out my rear tyres going up the Touge on Sunday. Have the stock rims and putting them on for the first time with some help from my son!.
Anyhow thinking of converting my car back to stock look i.e. stock side skirts and rear bumper and stock rims...lets see how it looks . Sending it to the shop this Wed.
Sent the car in today. Getting it back on Friday. Let's see how the original side skirts and rims will look on the car.
Thinking of spacers as there is alot of space between the rim and the panels. Maybe a 1inch spacer would be good.
26th Feb 2016.
Got my baby back. Car looks plain but like the original JDM look..
Joined the local 1JZ and 2JZ guys for dinner and some pics from the event.
More pics from the session.
My birthday and celebrated with a drive up the hills.
Had a few ladies in the group and a odd manic EK Civic Auto.
Then...a sexy 1981 Toyota KE70 with a 4AGE 20V with individual throttle bodies. The noise it makes is pure sex!!
That's a 900 bhp 2JZ Supra. What a monster!
Looking good dude. Think I prefer after market wheels, but I love how tidy this now looks. Wish we had black and silver plates. :(
Hey buddy...like the real ori JDM look but I need somehting sportier.. Gonna pick these babies up in a week's time.
What type of plates do you guys hv back home?
Got the clear corners finally. Not easy to install but they look really great . Now I need to spend this Saturday polishing my headlamps and sport lights as they look faded in comparison to the new clear signal lamps.

What a full car day. Went up with the guys for a drive then test fitted a set of 18's which look good except for the color.
The Golf R was a tough car to chase up the twisties. Just turn in an power. I was oversteering all over the place trying to keep up.
Here are the pics.
Did I mention the super Sexy JZZ30... Car looks amazing with the kit and rims. Oh and yes its a manual.
